EDDM Size Requirements — What You Need to Know Before Printing
If you’re planning to launch an Every Door Direct Mail® (EDDM) campaign, one of the most important steps is choosing the right postcard size. USPS has specific size guidelines for EDDM mailers—and if your design doesn’t meet them, your postcards won’t qualify for EDDM rates.
Here’s a clear breakdown of what the USPS EDDM size requirements are, plus tips to make sure your postcard is print-ready and USPS-compliant.
What Qualifies as an EDDM Mailer?
To qualify for EDDM, your mailer must meet USPS “flat mail” standards. That means it must be larger than a standard letter but still within set limits.
✅ EDDM Size Requirements (As of 2025):
To qualify, your mailer must meet all of the following:
Minimum Size:
- More than 10.5” long OR
- More than 6.125” high OR
- More than 0.25” thick
Maximum Size:
- No more than 15” long
- No more than 12” high
- No more than 0.75” thick
If your postcard is too small, it’s considered letter mail. If it’s too large, you’ll pay higher shipping rates. EDDM works only for these flat-sized mailers.
📏 Most Popular EDDM Postcard Sizes:
- 6.5” x 9” (most popular, affordable, USPS-compliant)
- 8.5” x 11” (larger and more impactful)
- 6” x 11” (longer horizontal layout)
- 8.5” x 14” (max size for max attention)
These sizes offer great visibility in the mailbox and stand out from standard letters or flyers.
🚫 Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Using standard 4” x 6” or 5” x 7” postcards – These are too small for EDDM.
- Designing without USPS guidelines in mind – Leave space for the USPS indicia and addressing.
- Skipping a proof check – One size error can disqualify your mailing.
